Fun and Games at the Uptown Asian Festival — Celebrating 150 Years of Richmond Hill!
Richmond Hill came alive with culture, colour, food and celebration during the 2023 Uptown Asian Festival, a three-day community event that brought people together at Richmond Green Sports Centre and Park from September 1 to 3, 2023.
Held during the Labour Day weekend, the festival marked a particularly special moment for the community as Richmond Hill celebrated its 150th anniversary. The event was also held in celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival, giving residents and visitors an opportunity to experience the traditions, entertainment and flavours of Asian cultures while celebrating an important milestone in Richmond Hill's history.
A Celebration of Culture and Community
The Uptown Asian Festival was more than just a weekend of entertainment. It served as a unifying celebration for Richmond Hill's Pan-Asian community, highlighting the traditions and cultural influences of Chinese, Korean, Japanese and other Asian communities.
The festival was created with an important purpose: to encourage community engagement, foster cross-cultural understanding and celebrate the richness of Asian cultures. By welcoming people of different ages, cultures and backgrounds, the event created a space where everyone could come together, learn something new and simply enjoy being part of the community.
That spirit of togetherness could be felt throughout the festival. Families, friends and neighbours gathered to enjoy a weekend filled with activities, performances and, of course, plenty of delicious food.
